Ordering Information
Plant material is produced and sold exclusively for conservation plantings and cannot be used for liner material or ornamental plantings. For ornamental landscaping needs, please visit your local private nursery or garden center.
There is a high demand for our seedlings. We operate on a first come, first served basis for all orders. We cannot place orders in advance of the sale start date. We strongly recommend placing your order the day the sale begins.
Orders are placed in January for spring pick up or delivery

The first step to placing an order with MCSN is to decide if your planting is considered conservation.
What Plantings are Considered Conservations? Any planting that enhances or improves the natural environment for the health of the land or the species that inhabit it is considered conservation.
Conservation projects include, but are not limited to: post-fire restoration; windbreaks and shelterbelts; reforestation; reclamation of former forest land; species diversification; restoration of all habitat types; afforestation; logging; Christmas tree farming (forest products); initiatives to increase forest health and resilience; reclamation of denuded lands; improvement of wildlife habitat mobility and connectivity; wildlife and pollinator habitat enhancement; mitigation of the effects of climate change; regeneration of desired species; reduction of soil loss and erosion; increases in canopy cover; invasive species suppression; development of habitat corridors and connectivity; and species recovery.
During checkout, please complete the “Conservation Verification” field with a brief description of your project and how you intend to use the seedlings.

Choosing Plant Species: If you’re unsure about which plant species to order, refer to our Resources page.
• In early September, we will publish our “Inventory Preview,” which details the species, sizes, quantities, and seed sources we anticipate having available in January.
• The catalog details each plant species we offer, including the optimal growing conditions for success. This document will help you identify species well suited to your site.
• Planting guides offer species recommendations tailored for pollinator-support, wildlife habitat, drought and cold hardiness, deer resistance, alkaline soils, riparian zones, and shelterbelt/windbreak plantings, and more!
• If you need further help selecting species, please reach out to your local Conservation District or Extension Office. Their on-the-ground expertise will guide you toward the best plants for your area and alert you to any region-specific pests or diseases.
