Montana State Trust Lands are managed by the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation to generate revenue for the benefit of Montana's public schools and other endowed institutions. The Land Board, also known as the Board of Land Commissioners, consists of the state's five highest elected officials, including the Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, State Auditor, and Superintendent of Public Instruction. The Land Board provides strategic direction and oversight for all proposed activities on these lands.
