Noncommercial fuels reduction on 25 acres of state land. Trees that are 8” or less in diameter would be thinned to a crown spacing of 10-15’. Trees over 8” diameter would not be cut. Other dense brush or shrubs located within the treatment units will be thinned or removed. All slash generated from this project would be hand piled and burned during appropriate, snow covered conditions.

Due to severe flooding during December 2025, it has been identified that the lower Flower Creek reservoir dam and spillway have been compromised. To facilitate the repairs to the dam, additional parking and staging area need to be cleared of trees and a staging area of 0.38 acres constructed. This proposed staging area lies completely within the SMZ of Flower Creek. While an Alternative Practice would typically be used to modify a silvicultural practice during a commercial logging activity, the intent of this proposal is to change the use of the land from a forested site to develop the site to support city infrastructure. This Alternative Practice would allow the operation of wheeled or tracked equipment in a streamside management zone, removal of all vegetation, both commercial and non-commercial, and allow the construction of a road and staging area within the SMZ. The proposed action would impact 0.38 acres of SMZ, both sides of approximately 175 lineal feet of a side channel and one side of approximately 75 feet of the main channel would be impacted. 48 commercial sized trees would need to be removed and would be sold. Stumps would be dug out and hauled away along with the slash. Clean fill would be hauled onto the site to build up the parking and staging area.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is proposing stream stabilization work within the Navigable waterway at the Kona and Kelly island fishing access sites in Missoula County. Coldwater engineering is their authorized agent and prepared the joint application. Kelly Island: A riprap toe would be installed within the low water mark for approximately 194 feet along the bank and would extend 6-10 feet into the stream (.04 acre). Kona: A stone toe will be installed within the low water mark for approximately 150 feet along the bank and would extend up to 20 feet into the stream (.07 acre). Both projects are part of a more extensive stream stabilization project. The portions outlined above are the only operations occurring within DNRC jurisdiction. All work would be completed during low flow. Both proposed areas combined would be less than an acre in size.

On September 3, 2026, DNRC received an application from the Proponent, ASWS LLC dba Hamlin Water, for the placement and operation of a temporary water pump and to lay a temporary layflat hose for the purpose of transferring freshwater across State of Montana Land tracts. The water would be utilized for the fracturing of a horizontal Bakken well(s).
