HELENA, Mont. – The Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC) today launched the Montana forest products manufacturers map, an interactive dashboard that displays wood products facilities across the state. The tool helps forest landowners, contractors, and community members quickly find nearby manufacturers and identify partners for projects and processing needs.

The map features each facility’s product information including the types of products made, wood species used, and size classifications with direct links to their websites for more information.

“Beyond helping Montanans find nearby mills, the map highlights manufacturing capacity that supports forest restoration, fuels reduction and local jobs,” said Marc Vessar, DNRC forest practices program manager. “A strong, diverse forest products industry is essential to carrying out the projects that keep our forests healthy, strengthen our economy and keep our communities safer from catastrophic wildfire.”

By creating markets for material generated from forest treatments, Montana’s forest product manufacturers help offset project costs, improve forest health,, and support resilient communities and rural economies.

The launch coincides with Montana Forest Products Industry Week, Oct. 19-25, which recognizes the contributions of the forest products industry, including the sustainable products derived from forests and the people who work in the industry.

Note to editor: The map’s initial build was completed by University of Montana W.A. Franke College of Forestry & Conservation student intern Nicole Wheeler.
