DNRC's Urban and Community Forestry program offers grants to improve the care and management of trees in the built environment.

There are state-funded grants to plants trees and celebrate Arbor Day each April. There are also federally-funded subawards originating at the USDA Forest Service.

Tree Planting Grants
For the purchase and planting of one or more trees in the celebration of Arbor Day.
The grant requires submission of an Arbor Day Proclamation.
Grant funds are issued up-front and require reporting after the Arbor Day event is held.
Match funds are encouraged but not required.  
Application Period: December 18, 2023 - February 16, 2024
Implementation Begins: Upon Grant receipt through Arbor Day each year
Funding Amount:

Tree City USA communities: $850

All other communities: $350

 
Urban and Community Forestry Grants
Grants for local governments to build, develop, improve their urban forestry programs. Projects tie into a yearly theme. Typical projects include tree inventory, Urban Forest Management Plan, green infrastructure work, strategic tree planting and care, or best practices and education outreach.
  
Application Period:  Application is open until February  16, 2024
Implementation Begins: 24-36 month term for project completion typically begins in April
Funding Amount: $10,000 - $50,000
