Fish Migration barrier Restoration Project on McVey Creek 2025-02-03

Closing Date: 03-03-2025
This proposal would enhance the pond depth by excavating it to achieve depths of 10-12 feet, reducing aquatic vegetation growth improving overwintering habitat conditions for Arctic grayling and Westslope cutthroat trout. The plan is to dewater the pond through pumping. Then the contractor using an excavator would remove the aggregate from the bottom of the existing pond to make it deeper. That material would be hauled and placed in a designated area just northeast of the pond as a repository area for the material. This repository area is located out of the designated wetland of McVey Creek. The MT FWP currently has a Land Use License for the existing fish barrier that is in place on McVey Creek on state trust land in section 35 T1S R15W.
