Supporting our Communities

The DNRC supports local government engagement with forest management and fire mitigation on federal, state, Tribal, and private lands. Through the County Coop Program and grants funded through the Montana Forest Action Plan and Community Wildfire Protection Plans, we are able to implement strategies that protect our local communities.

Working Together to Help Montana

The Rabbit Tracts Project is a great example of the cooperative work being done between multiple entities including the DNRC, Stimson Lumber Company, Vital Grounds, US Forest Service, Northern Lights, Lincoln County, and private landowners. This video shows the urgent need for fuels reduction treatments being done on 29,976 acres to reduce wildfire risk to communities living in the Wildland Urban Interface.
