The Department strives to keep the public and partners informed of agency programs, opportunities for public comment, projects, wildfire updates, and other activities.

Public Information Requests

A Public Information Request includes, but is not limited to, written documents and electronic files containing information relating to the conduct or administration of the public's business prepared, owned, used, or retained by DNRC. While most agency records are available to the public, certain records may be withheld from disclosure due to individual privacy, safety, security, or confidentiality; the exceptions to public record disclosure are described in Montana Code Annotated in Title 2, Chapter 6.

As of October 1, 2023, the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation is required to respond to public information requests through the statewide Office of Public Information Requests.

A request for information about a specific person or property (such as records of a single lease, license, or permit) may be requested from the Department. Contact information for the Department is available here: dnrc.mt.gov/Contact. All other records requests must be submitted to the Office of Public Information requests.
