This proposal includes fuel reduction through timber harvest on roughly 150 acres. To promote reduce hazardous fuels, timber harvest treatments may include commercial thin prescriptions in Douglas-fir sawtimber stands where conifer expansion has excluded historic rangeland and Douglas-fir savanna. An estimated harvest of 200 MBF would take place on approximately 150 acres. Approximately 0.50 miles of temporary roads may be constructed and approximately 0.40 miles of existing roads may be maintained to facilitate harvest operations.

The Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks has requested from the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation a Land Use License for Recreation Access at Johnson Reservoir.

Hiland Cude LLC, referred to as the Proponent, is applying for a 25’ Right of Way Easement (1.44 acres). Kinder Morgan is gathering the crude off the Kraken- Northern Pad that is located approximately 1 mile Northwest of this State Land tract. Kinder Morgan is proposing to install up to a 4-inch steel crude pipeline through State Land to gather the crude and transport it through the proposed pipeline to their existing pipeline facilities.

On June 8, 2026, DNRC received an application from the Proponent, AWSW LLC dba Hamlin Water, for the placement and operation of a temporary layflat hose for the purpose of transferring freshwater across Montana trust lands. The water would be utilized for the fracturing of a horizontal Bakken well(s). This analysis does not evaluate the impacts or usage of the water nor the fracturing of the horizontal Bakken formation well itself. The analysis evaluates the impacts of the placement, removal and operation of a hose. The Proponent has applied for an effective duration date of June 15, 2026, through October 15, 2026. The hose would be expected to be placed near the beginning of the duration and removed near the end of the duration.

Mid-Rivers Telephone Cooperative, Inc. has requested that the DNRC allow the passage of the new telecommunication line mentioned across a corner of this state-owned tract. The line on T8N-R56E-Sec 24 would parallel Westmore Road and come to a corner on this tract and turn east. Easement would be 16 feet in width (8 feet on either side of centerline, 69.64 feet in length, and have a total acreage of 0.03 acres.

This action would authorize the drilling of boreholes for geotechnical investigation for the future installation of a water pipeline for drinking water on Montana State Trust Lands, including all associated construction, maintenance, and use activities. This water pipeline will utilize water from the Madison Aquifer to small communities and rural families in central Montana.
