Owner Index Instruction

These reports are available by county.  The report is sorted by owner then by water right number.

Report Description:
OWNER --  Water Right Owner(s).
BASIN  -- Code for drainage basin.
WATER RIGHT TYPE -- title of form filed.
LATE -- late filing designation. A - non-subordinate, B- subordinate to all timely filed claims.
W R NUMBER -- Water right number.
  Specific identification number assigned to each water right by DNRC.
V - version
USE -- Two letter use code (see explanation).
SOURCE  -- Water source name.
SEC TWP RNG -- Section, township & range (1st POD listed)
PRIORITY DATE -- Month, day and year of priority reported for water right.

An owner may have more than one water right.  A water right may be owned by more than one owner.
In these listings, a water right may be listed multiple times for each use.  Uses prior to 1973
(filed as statements of claim) only have one use.  Multiple uses can occur for water rights filed 
after 1973. A list of use codes follows the end of this document.  

TO USE THIS REPORT: Use features in your browser to locate or find information.  Using find
commands you can search for a name, or a legal description.  Use partial spelling to find more
"hits" and more exact information to limit information found. Sometimes ownership may be listed as
a company/ranch name rather than as an individual(s).  Check results. 

You can block your result and copy to a clipboard or to a word processing document.  Choose Courier
font and landscape orientation with appropriate margin and font size to fit.  You can also download
or copy the entire report to your hard drive to use at your convenience.  This text report may be
imported into other programs such as spreadsheet very readily.

Dated material.  This report may not be updated for some time.  New applications, updated
ownership, revocations of permits, withdrawals of water rights or corrections can occur.  This
report is provided as a public service by the State of Montana.  User assumes total responsibility
for verification.
