Open burning will require a burning permit starting Thursday, May 1, 2008.

Burning permits are available two ways:

1) Go on-line to www.firesafekalispell.com and fill out an application. A permit will be generated on-line and e-mailed to you, and you can print it on your home printer. (This year, burn permits are valid for 10 days per issuance.)

2) Or, stop by one of the following offices, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., where a burn permit can be issued to you:

• Flathead City-County Health Department, 2nd floor, Earl Bennett Building, 1035 1st Avenue West in Kalispell.

• Montana DNRC burn permit office at 2250 Highway 93 North, in Kalispell.

• Bigfork Rural Fire District located at 810 Grand Drive, in Bigfork (call Bigfork Fire prior to a visit since they may be out on a call, 837-4590).

Burn permits are not valid within the city limits of Whitefish, Kalispell and Columbia Falls.

Remember, it is your responsibility to call the Flathead County Air Quality before you burn (751-8144). Burners are responsible for any and all suppression costs, if your fire escapes your control (50-63-103 MCA). Please be fire safe.

Thank you in advance for being a responsible burner. Your cooperation is appreciated.
