Stream Permitting Book
Montana Stream Permitting: A Guide for Conservation District Supervisors and Others is a publication developed to assist conservation districts and agencies in reviewing stream projects. The guiding principle behind wise stream management is to select tools and methods that are compatible with a stream's natural tendencies and to minimize undesirable side effects. This guide includes chapters on stream form and function and stream management. It also includes examples of a variety of stream projects along with design considerations for the different types of projects.
This document is a guide only and should not be construed as a rule for projects. Agencies and conservation districts may have adopted construction standards that are different than those described in this guide and some may not allow all of the projects listed in this guide. If in doubt, contact the appropriate permitting agency.
