ARRA Urban Forestry Grant Details

Available only in Lincoln and Flathead Counties

Grant Amount: $20,000 to $150,000
Match Amount: None required; however matching funds are part of scoring criteria
Application Deadline: September 10, 2009

The intent of ARRA funding is primarily focused on creating and sustaining jobs. No matching funds are required for these grants; however they will be considered a creiterion during evaluation. Key project components include:

Promote employment and economic assistance to local nursery landscape businesses and arborists

Urban renewal through hazard tree removal, site preparation, tree pruning, and tree planting in communities

Energy conservation; planting trees to provide shade and cut cooling cost

Excellence Awards

Grant Amount: $1,000

Nomination Deadline: August 28, 2009

The Urban Forestry Excellence Awards recognize communities with outstanding achievements in creating and maintaining a sustainable urban forestry program. The Montana DNRC, with assistance from the Montana Urban & Community Forestry Association (MUCFA), select one community each from the Western and Eastern regions of Montana. These communities show exemplary efforts in advocating proper practices in urban forestry and promoting the benefits of the program. Each is presented with their award during the Montana League of Cities and Towns conference in the fall. The award consists of a special plaque and a $1,000 grant towards an urban forestry project within the community.

Nominations for 2009 are currently being accepted. City & town officials, or community representatives - Please download and complete the form below and send to the listed address. For more information, please contact your DNRC urban forester or local representative.

Arbor Day Grant Details

Grant Amount: $300 for all communities, $1,000 for Tree City USA designees
Match Amount: An additional 35% of grant award
Application Deadline: January 1st of each calendar year

Program Development Projects

Anaconda

Tree planting on Anaconda’s main boulevards and a planned pilot tree inventory project.

Bozeman

Bozeman will receive funding to purchase new tree inventory software.

Choteau

Removal, replacement and pruning of hazard trees that experienced damage after an unseasonable spring freeze in 2008.

Colstrip

Completion of community tree inventory, tree planting on Main Street and tree planting educational classes for the community.

Glendive

Boulevard tree Pruning and maintenance work to comply with Glendive’s tree ordinance.

Laurel

Tree Planting, pruning and maintenance in local parks.

Missoula

Inventory of city trees and data collection. Purchase of new tree inventory software, training, data entry and current record conversion.

Polson

Complete city tree inventory.

Shelby

Development of wind break, irrigation improvements and planting materials purchased for Municipal Tree and Turf Farm.

Townsend

Training for city tree crews in pruning and maintenance to comply with city tree ordinance.

 

Tree City USA Grant Details

Grant Amount: $500
Match Amount: An additional 35% of grant award
Application Deadline: Open

Grant applications are available to new Tree City USA communities after their application has been approved by the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation and the National Arbor Day Foundation.
