Interim Process for Certain Water Rights


The Flathead Reservation Water Management Board (Board) is in the process of staffing the Office of the Engineer, which will process all new water right applications on the Flathead Indian Reservation. The Board established an interim system to process certain time sensitive water right applications until the Office of the Engineer is fully operational.

The Board established an interim system to process Substitute Well Notices until the Office of the Engineer is staffed. Beginning June 1, 2022, you may file a Substitute Well Notice using the form below. You can track the status of your application on this page at the Notice of Receipt of Application section.

Domestic Allowance Interim Process

The Board established an interim system to process Individual and Shared Domestic Allowances, until the Office of the Engineer is staffed.

Beginning June 1, 2022:

  • If you have not constructed a groundwater well or developed a spring, you may apply for an Individual or Shared Authorization to Construct a Domestic Allowance using the form below. You can track the status of your application on this page at the Notice of Receipt of Application section.

  • If you constructed a groundwater well between September 17, 2021 and June 1, 2022, you must wait to file until July 1, 2022. The Board is offering a grace period between July 1, 2022 and September 29, 2022 to get in compliance.  

Use this Domestic Allowance Completion Form 60DF-Part B after the Board has issued an Authorization to Construct a Domestic Allowance, the groundwater well is constructed, and the water is put to use.

Notice of Receipt of Application

Received applications will be date-stamped and scanned. The Board is pausing the posting of applications until additional staff are hired and a Board website is developed. If you have questions contact the Board at contact@frwmb.org or 406-201-2532.
