Aquatic Invasive Species Grants

The Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC) offers state-funded grants for the prevention and control of aquatic invasive species (AIS). The goal of the grants is to protect the natural resources of Montana from severe and unacceptable damage from aquatic invasive species.  Click here for more information. 

RDGP Planning Grants

The Reclamation and Development Grants Program (RDGP) Planning Grants are state-funded grants designed to fund projects that help plan and develop RDGP Project Grants.

Examples of Projects Include:

  • Help plan projects for RDGP project grants
  • Site assessment and sampling
  • Grant writing for natural resource cleanup grants and RDGP Project Grants
  • Project planning
  • Groundwater Investigation

Grant Amount

DNRC will award grants up to $50,000.

Funding for Planning Grants

DNRC solicits, evaluates, and ranks each application.  Funds are awarded based on rank and available funding.

Next deadline:  Regular cycle ending June 15, 2018 at 5 pm

RDGP Project Grants

For projects that compensate Montana citizens for the effects of exploration and mining on Montana lands and serve the public interest and the State of Montana.

Examples of Projects Include:

  • Abandoned Mine Reclamation
  • Brownfields  Cleanup
  • Abandoned Hazardous Waste Site Cleanup
  • Abandoned Oil and Gas Well Cleanup
  • Mining Related Mitigation Projects
  • Crucial State Needs

Grant Amount:

DNRC will recommend no more than $300,000 for most projects.  DNRC may recommend up to $500,000 for a project if the applicant has clearly demonstrated multiple natural resource benefits , the need and urgency of the project, and the financial need and unavailability of other funds to complete the project.

Funding for Projects:

DNRC solicits, evaluates, and ranks each application and forwards its recommendations for funding to the Governor’s Office before each regular legislative session.  With the governor’s approval these recommendations are submitted to the legislature.  The legislature makes the final decision on which projects will be funded. 

Funds for projects approved by the legislature are awarded according to the funding priority list set by the legislature and are contracted according to available revenue.  Not all approved projects will be funded if the total amount requested exceeds available funds.

AIS Grant Applications are due on December 3, 2018, by 5:00 PM.  Off cycle applications are considered on a case-by-case basis . Contact DNRC for more information.
