City of Malta approved for SRF loan to modernize wastewater system
MALTA, Mont. – Governor Steve Bullock today announced that the town of Malta, Mont., has been approved for a $430,000 State Revolving Fund loan package to modernize its wastewater treatment system.
Constructed in 1981, a lift station serving Malta’s east side experienced complete pump and electronics failure in June 2019. Following an engineering analysis, it was determined that most components of the lift station need to be replaced.
To finance the improvements, Malta has been approved for a loan of $330,000 from the State Revolving Fund at 2.5% interest for 20 years. The town will also receive a second SRF loan for $100,000 that will be forgiven if certain conditions are met.
Lakeside Excavation of Havre, Mont., has been awarded the contract for the project. The Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will oversee implementation of the project while DNRC administers the loan.
“Communities that invest in modern infrastructure, including drinking water and wastewater treatment systems, benefit now and for generations to come,” Bullock said. “These projects not only create good-paying jobs for Montana workers, they better prepare our communities for new growth and development enhance the health and well-being of our citizens, and protect our soil, groundwater and surface water.”
