Yellowstone County Projects

Conservation & Resource Development

City of Billings – SRF Drinking Water Improvements – SRF loans of $18,118,000 were given to the community for hook up fees for part of the City and rehabilitation of the filter complex and water treatment plant.

Huntley Irrigation District – WDL Irrigation Improvements WDL loans of $1,326,762 were made to the district for improvements to their irrigation system.

Forestry

Fire & Aviation Management Bureau

Volunteer and rural fire department assistance grant funding provided within the county – $20,000

DNRC wildland fire resources positioned within county for county assistance (seasonnally) –one severity type 3 light helicopter

Equipment development assistance provided to county fire program – two new F-450 wildland fire engines

Forestry Assistance Bureau

Tree and shrub seedlings provided to private landowners within the county – 4,009

Communities participating in the Montana Tree City USA program – 1

Arbor Day grant funding provided within the county – $550, which leveraged $455 of matching funds

Forestry assistance provided to private landowners within the county – 64 hours

Overview Information

Number of wildland fires (county assist) suppressed in cooperation with DNRC within the county – 5

Trust Land Management

DNRC SLO

Obtain entitlements to develop Skyview Ridge Subdivsion in Billings Heights –Provide for highest and best use of Trust land and increase revenues generated from tract

Pine Ridge Fire Salvage Timber Sale – Salvage dead and dying timber from the Pine Ridge fire

Weed management plans – Provides assistance to Yellowstone County in the control of noxious weeds

Yellowstone County

Obtain a permanent easement for a Veterans Cemetery north of Laurel (proposed) –Project would create a new Veterans Cemetery

Construct parking lot on Trust land at terminus of Jellison Road – Provides improved access to Trust land for recreational use.

Water Resources

Digital Flood Insurance Rate Map (DFIRM) to start in FY07 $225,000 - FEMA funded thru State.

Assisted the Yellowstone River Conservation Districts Council to protect and manage the Yellowstone River and has assisted the council to secure over $500,000 in grant funds for technical studies. Staff salary & travel = $25,000
